Principal's Newsletter March 4, 2022
Dear SCS School Families,
This week has been busy in the life of the Church! As the Lenten season begins, we look to the spiritual graces and practices that assist us in growing closer to the heart of Jesus. We are reminded of the need for repentance and mercy; and we are thankful that we, too, are offered those graces in our own lives.
Our school community all enjoyed the Mardi Gras activities on Tuesday reminding us all of the coming season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday our school community returned to the 8:30 AM daily Mass with the larger parish community. It is truly a blessing to be back with the community. Fr. Bill John visited the preschool classrooms to distribute ashes to the students and teachers in their classrooms.
For the remainder of the week, we saw other various Lenten activities and work displayed in the halls and classrooms which can be seen throughout the newsletter.

Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, And Lent
2nd Grade Highlights
Mrs. Gallimore and her second-grade class had a full week of learning and activities! Of course, with Lent beginning this week there were several lessons and discussions about the Lenten season and the call to repentance and mercy. During a discussion about some of the things that change during Lent, they spoke about why we don't hear "Alleluia" during Mass. The students each then decorated their own alleluia and put them away until we hear it again at Easter.
The 2nd graders also learned about the life cycle of butterflies and practiced subtracting two-digit numbers using pennies and dimes to help grasp that concept.

Saints Before and After Care
Did you know we offer Before and After School Care? This program offers parents flexibility and peace of mind before and after school. It allows for positive and interactive supervision with the comforts of home including: daily structured age appropriate activities, large comfortable area, snacks, indoor downtime activities, outdoor play and homework time. If you want to know more, please contact the school office.
K - 8th Grade Reading Challenge
March 1st – March 31st
It's that time again! Let's get reading!
All students will be given a coupon or treat as a reward for participating at the end of the reading challenge. A gift card will be given to the top reader of each grade! Completed reading logs should be handed into their teacher by Thursday, March 31st, to qualify for the challenge.
The winners will be announced the following week after the challenge has ended.
Please lookout for your child’s reading log, which will be coming home from school soon and record all the books they read during the challenge. Further information about the challenge may come from your child’s teacher. Please ensure that the books are at your child’s reading level.
A class score chart will be kept in each classroom, so remember to turn in the reading log each week so their books can be counted.
