Dear SCS School Families,
We have been so blessed by the many wonderful events that have taken place at our parish school, St. Catherine of Siena!
Our 2nd-grade class made their “First Holy Reconciliation” this past Saturday. When asked how they felt after; one student replied, “I really like getting rid of my sin and being closer to Jesus!”, others expressed feelings of happiness and peace!
As parents and teachers, we are one body in Christ, and the formation of these children is a reminder that we too, as adults, must continue to model and lead our children in their relationship with Jesus. Attending Sunday Mass consistently is one of the best gifts you can give your children. It is a time to worship our God who made us and an opportunity to thank Him for all the blessings in our lives and of course the summit, to receive the Most Precious Body of our Savior in the Holy Eucharist.

St. Valentine's Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm around campus. Teachers and students all enjoyed the chance to dress down and don Valentine-themed colors and clothing they also discussed who St. Valentine was and why he is celebrated. Several classes did St. Valentine crafts while others watched short videos and discussed St. Valentine.
One of the true blessings of celebrating St. Valentine's feast day is teaching our students to recognize and respect the dignity of each person. Sharing with each other and demonstrating compassion and care with others.

8th Grade Bridge Project
The last few weeks in Mrs. Wehner's 8th grade STEM class have been busy. The students learned about mass, weight distribution, and strength. In groups, the students designed, built, and tested bridges that needed to support at least 20 lbs. Each group had the chance to design and build bridges using popsicle sticks. They did some dress rehearsal testing and had the opportunity to adjust their designs and make any corrections they needed. Finally, each group presented their bridge, discussed the design and thought process, and tested it with hand weights on February 10. The winning bridge held 85 lbs!! WOW!
5th Grade Highlights!
Mrs. DiPrisco's 5th graders have spent some time learning about cells, their parts, and their functions. As that lesson concluded the students designed and labeled clay models of cells. They did a wonderful job! Mrs. DiPrisco also did a demonstration of yeast cells and what they require to grow.
In addition to the cell models and compositions about Catholic education and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, Mrs. DiPrisco's students have their favorite scripture quotes on display in their room. Each student wrote, decorated, and explained their choice to the rest of the class. It is a blessing to hear them explain why a particular verse meant something important to them.
Preschool Fun
Our preschool classes have been hard at work, as usual. They, too, have talked about St. Valentine and how we share his spirit by caring for others. They have done crafts, read books, and played hard this week.
New Bundles of Joy, New Blessings
Please welcome, and pray for, Miss Amelia Grace who was born on February 10, 2022. Her parents, Sarah and Sean, and big sister Catherine (1st grade) are overjoyed with the new addition to their family.
Mrs. Paxton (middle school advanced math) is happy to announce the birth of her grandson, Mr. Henry James who was born on February 10, 2022. Young Henry is welcomed by his parents, Patrick and Katie, and his big sister, Josephine.

It's that time of year again! Registration for the 2022-2023 school year is well on its way. Thank you to those families who have completed the priority registration. If you have not completed the 2022-2023 registration let us know how we can help!
Classes are filling up quickly so be sure to register as soon as possible! Recently the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority increased the maximum scholarship award for the NC Opportunity Scholarship so be sure to visit www.ncseaa.edu to find out more and apply.
